Book Description Known for his long, pendulous ears, his short, powerful legs and his sweet and somehow sad expression, the Basset Hound is a noble and determined scent-hound, capable of hunting for hours on end, who thrives on being involved in his owners' daily life. The Basset Hound is regarded as an ideal family dog, adaptable and affectionate, protective and trainable. For an owner seeking an easygoing, steady companion and watchdog who requires quite little of his owner, the Basset Hound will not disappoint. This book provides the much-needed factual information about the Basset Hound and his ancestry, character and standard, as well as puppy selection, feeding, training, preventative health care and showing. The new owner will welcome advice about preparing for the pup's arrival, housebreaking and preventing puppy problems. In addition to an extremely authoritative text, this book presents over 135 photographs in full color, which prove to be as informative as they are attractive. Helpful hints and important information are highlighted to provide easy access to everything the reader needs to know about life with a Basset Hound from puppyhood to the senior years.

Kennel Club Dog Breed Series Books February 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These Guide books for the different dog breeds are the best. From cover to cover the content is related to the designated breed and all the photos are of that particular breed of dog. So many specific dog breed books tend to fade into a general dog care section about midway with photos of various dog breeds instead of the specific breed you got the book to view. Half the fun is seeing the breed photos of the dog you are interested in caring for.
